Reality Check

Gary and Dee are back from a week off.  We have managed to get Lyn back!  Huzzah!  Our topics include the Equifax security breach.  Since this was recorded, the forced arbitration clause has been removed.  However, beware that if you accept their one year free monitoring, they will require a credit card and will charge you the second that the free year is up.  To check if you’ve been affected by this massive failure to do one’s job, here’s the website:

We speculate some about that Steele Dossier.  Quite a few leaks about that.  We discuss how our ‘law and order’ administration has chosen to pardon someone who repeatedly broke the law.  In spending all of Maricopa’s money on harassing people of color, Arpaio’s sheriff department failed to investigate some 400 sexual assaults.  Thirty-two of these assaults were to minors, one to a two year old child.

We discuss how our tax system isn’t as progressive as it once was.  We discuss how poorer people pay a much higher percentage of their income in taxes.  We also discuss Universal Basic Income.  There is a proposal in Massachusetts for a new special tax on incomes over $1 million.  Steve Bannon even supported such an idea.

What has Texas’s lack of regulation meant to hurricane damage and recovery?  We do know that allowing pets in shelters has saved lives this hurricane season.  In previous hurricane seasons, people refusing to leave their pets behind have decided to stay home with their furry family members.  This change was an example of bipartisan legislation that passed in response to Hurricane Katrina.

We also discuss briefly how Canada has been helping gay men escape Chechnya.
